Produce
Fresh produce from across Mexico
We’ve traveled across Mexico - from the northern region of Sonora to Yucatan in the west and the southern province of Chiapas - in search of premium produce. Here is a selection of our specialties:
Avocado Hass
Dating back to the Aztecs, the avocado is a true native of Mexico. Today, Mexican avocados have a world-beating reputation for creamy texture and outstanding flavour. They are also renown for having smaller stones, which allows for more flesh. Avocados usually fully ripen two weeks after picking, giving it an unusual shelf life.

Green Tomatillos
Tomatillos are a staple of Mexican cuisine and a key ingredient of salsa verde. Tomatillos can be eaten raw in salads or cooked in a variety of dishes such as 'Carne en su Jugo'. Ripe, refrigerated, tomatillos will remain fresh for about two weeks. They will keep longer if the husks are removed, the fruit placed in a sealed plastic bag and stored in a refrigerator.
Habanero chilli peppers
Grown predominantly in the Yucatan region, Habanero chilli peppers are renowned for their high capsaicinoid content (between 150,000 to 350,000 Scoville units), making them one of the hottest chillies available. Habanero peppers have a citrus-like flavour, making them ideal for hot sauces and spicy dishes.
Jalapeno chilli peppers
The Jalapeno takes its name from the town of Jalapa in Mexico’s Veracruz state. Jalapeno peppers are medium flavoured chilli, ranging from 2,500 to 10,000 Scoville units. Highly versatile, Jalapenos can be pureed into sauces, stuffed, roasted and pickled.
Jicamas
The Jicama (Hee-kah-ma) is also known as the Mexican yam bean. Jimaca’s skins are typically golden brown, the flesh crisp and juicy with a texture similar to Granny Smith’s apples. Jicamas are used in salads, stir-fried dishes and when thinly sliced, a low-calorie alternative to tortillas.
Maradol Papayas
The Maradol variety of Papayas is famous for is reddish pulp and soft sweet flavour. Each fruit typically weighs between 1.5kg and 2.6kg. A versatile fruit, Maradol Papayas are widely used in desserts, sweets and preserves.
Nopales (Fresh cactus)
The Nopal has a crisp, fleshy texture and a flavour similar to green beans. Nopales have sharp thorns, which must be kept during shipping and delivery to help retain freshness. It’s important these spiky thorns are removed before cooking or serving. Nopales are served boiled, grilled or commonly eaten raw – and mainly used in salads, pickles and soups.
Persian Limes
Mexican Persian Limes differ from other limes in colour (dark green in immaturity to pale yellow when mature) and thickness of skin – the thicker skin helping to extend shelf life for up to 3 weeks from time of picking. Persian Limes are seedless and less acidic than Key Limes making them ideal for a variety of uses. They can be used for cocktails, as an addition to marinates - also with salads, fish, meat, desserts or any food where a touch of 'zing' is wanted.

Poblano (Miahuateco) chilli peppers
Widely cultivated in the region of Puebla, the Poblano chilli has a thick, fleshy dark green skin. Its mild flavour (1,000 to 1,500 Scoville units) and size makes it ideal for vegetarian dishes. Poblano peppers are often stuffed and served as 'Chiles Rellenos' or grilled and cooked with corn and sour cream, and served in tortilla tacos.
Serrano chilli peppers
The Serrano chilli pepper gets its name from the northern 'Sierra' region of Mexico. Slightly hotter than its close cousin the Jalapeno chilli pepper, the Serrano (ranging between 10,000 and 25,000 Scoville units) is popularly used in 'Pico de Gallo' salsa, made with chopped tomatoes, onions and coriander.
